Welcome to Basket Sculpture

I have been a traditional basket maker and teacher for twenty-eight years and have enjoyed learning the required technical skills to make finely crafted functional baskets. Now, I create sculptures that blend traditional and non-traditional materials in a variety of forms.

My present work is more about seeking answers to life's questions. Possible answers are incorporated into each piece as I transform materials into various shapes, each with a story or message in its inner form. Some pieces have words from personal journals or words written by other authors. Other baskets, such as the copper foil and cotton piece, use materials to suggest meaning. Here the blending of material both hard and soft is a metaphor for women - soft with a firm resilient structure.

The outer grid structures surround the baskets as a protective layer allowing the inner element space to seek some of these answers. This combination of inner wisdom enveloped by the outer protection unifies my continual and constant search for meaning in each piece.
